IIP Gold (May 2011)

World class fostering agency

Reach Out Care Fostering Services, based in Newton Aycliffe, is officially a world-class company!      The organisation, based at Hope House, is the first fostering agency in the region to achieve Investor in People Gold Standard.

It joins a select handful of companies in the North East to achieve the gold standard. According to IIP it represents achievement of world-class best practice and shows a truly cutting-edge organisation operating at the very highest levels of people management practice.

“There are around 25,000 IIP organisations in theUKand less than one per cent have gold award so we’re absolutely delighted,” said manager Lynne Brown. “It’s a really tough award to get – there are 39 evidence requirements just to get IIP and a further 126 to achieve gold. We’ve done some internet research and we think we’re actually the first agency in the country to achieve it but IIP are unable to confirm this.”

The agency works alongside local authorities throughout the region and is the sister company of Reach Out Care Support Services. The organisation has also pioneered a supported housing scheme for care leavers and other vulnerable young people.

“Achieving gold recognises the exceptional team work of our staff and carers and the company’s investment in them,” said Lynne. “Learning and personal development is one of our core values - everyone, including all of our carers, has an individual learning plan.  Valuing and empowering

our people is helping us achieve some excellent outcomes for children and young people.”

Director Dot Butler said: “The award comes hot on the heels of the Investing in Children accreditation we achieved across all of our companies, including ROCSOLID.

“The IIP assessor recognised that leadership and management as a key strength and that our people feel involved and empowered. His report also praised our open and honest communications network.

“But the area of strength in the report which means the most to us is that  ‘people are dedicated, enthusiastic, passionate and totally committed to the agency and its carers and children, evidenced by the willingness of people to go the extra mile and how the core values are at the centre of everything they do.’ “
